PEACE STEPS – Bible study application questions

Last updated on November 3rd, 2020

God calls us to not only read the Bible, but to meditate on His Word. These bible study application questions should help you.

“This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.” Joshua 1:8

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.” Psalm 1:1-2

Here is a process you can use to help you meditate and reflect on scripture from the Holy Bible when you read it.

SOAP

For a short reflection time, you could use SOAP:
Scripture – read a chapter or segment within a chapter
Observation – meditate on how the Holy Spirit highlights aspects of the passage           (What stands out, what is exciting or saddening or angers you, what confuses you)
Application – How can you apply this passage to your life?
(The below reflective questions can help with this part)
Prayer – Pray that the Holy Spirit would help you live out God’s Word.

PEACE STEPS – Bible study application questions

To go deeper, think of the passage and ask yourself the questions in the acrostic, PEACE STEPS.

Is there a …

Promise to claim?
Example to follow?
Attitude to change?
Command to obey?
Error to avoid?

Sin to confess?
Truth to proclaim?
Exaltation of God or Evangelism tip to follow?
Prayer to pray?
Something to thank God for?

When you answer the question, think about how you could follow this scripture more closely today and this week.

I recommend reading a chapter a day from the Bible, meditating on it, and memorizing a scripture verse or two a week.

I pray this process of Bible study application questions will help you to know God more.

My PEACE STEPS was based on a similar acrostic,

Also using a devotional or bible study guide can help most people.  If you read about 3 chapters a day, you can read through the Holy Bible in a year.  These online options may help you:
